Leaving the home

Once you've ended your contract, your room must be left properly for the next tenant. But how should you leave your room?

  1. The new tenant must be able to overpaint the walls and ceilings in one layer, as soon as he/she moves in. Remove any hooks, nails, screws and plugs in the walls and fill any holes.
  2. Remove any carpets or other floor coverings, unless the new tenants wishes to keep these.
  3. Make sure the light switches and power outlets are undamaged, free of paint and fixed firmly in place.
  4. Cover any loose wires hanging from the light fittings with a screw terminal or fitting.
  5. Make sure your residence is cleaned up well once you are leaving the residence.

If you've painted your walls you can often leave the walls in that condition when you move out, provided that the colour is paintable in one go. This means that if you have painted your walls very dark, that your caretaker may ask you to paint them white.
